AN
OPEN LETTER
-- From The Light Millennium
To the Prime Minister of Turkey
Mr.
Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN
Date: December 29, 2004, New York
Dear Prime Minister Erdogan:
Reference: A call for relief efforts for the victims
of Tidal wave disaster in South Asia
I am writing this e-mail to seek Turkey's friendly hand
to help those who have
been affected by the tsunami disaster in South-East Asia...
I
am fully aware of Turkey's priorities and your cabinet's
hard-work, such as
the meetings with the Europan Union, Cyprus, domestic
issues...
I
am confident that you have done your best and will continue
to do so regarding
the above (particularly the first two issues)...
* * * * *
However,
I am also of the opinion that Turkey should remember the
relieving results of the help provided by the international
community post the Izmit earthquake, and should
consider reaching out now to those victims
of another disaster in the far away lands: Victims of
the tsunami disaster in South-East Asia. Turkey,
as always should lead and promote the efforts
of help to disaster victims; you or one of your ministers
can and should initiate and promote to provide
RELIEF funds & urgent help to citizens
of the affected countries, such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia.
India, Taiwan...

Our
minds are still fresh with memories of Turkey's last major
earthquake. We all were very grateful to be
supported by the neighboring and far distant
countries towards our relief effort... In return, I am
confident that any support by Turkey towards
the relief of tsunami victims will be greatly
appreciated by all. Not only the affected countries citizens
and governments, but all members of the international
community will heed this effort, and it will
generate much good will and respect towards Turkey and
Turkish government in the World.
With
your start sign, without doubt, in Turkey, Europe, in
the United States
as well as all over the world, all Turks and Turkish organizations
and
communities will try to bring their potential to help
our sisters, brothers
and their families in Asia.
If
we care for others, others will care for us, too...
Since
we are the descendents of Mevlana & Yunus Emre, this
is the time we should
unite globally, and help one another in every way we can...
As
we all know, if we care for others, others will care for
us, too...
On
a personal note, I will be leaving for Sri Lanka from
New York on January
9, 2005 with a stop-over in Istanbul, on January 10-11.
I am eager
to pick up tokens of this friendship/help effort to take
some of the below
urgent needs personally to Sri Lanka. Below, I have included
the list
for "Urgent Needs" to my mail for your convenience.
Prime
Minister Erdogan, thank you so much for your consideration
and time...
I do hope that you will heed this request and respond
favorably by
calling upon all those within Turkey that will answer
this call.
The
future is in our hands if we work hand in hand and this
is the exact time
to demonstrate that we can...
Sincerely
Yours,
Bircan
