Friends,
We would like to sincerely thank all of you who attended our reception
onboard Peace Boat.
It was wonderful to see so many
of our New York friends come together
and inspiring to see so many new faces
as well. For those of you who were unable to attend, we are sorry we
missed you this time, but we hope to have
you onboard when the ship returns to Manhattan.
In the meantime we look forward
to collaborating with all of you as Peace
Boat US develops operations in the United
States.
The ship safely left New York and will host programs in the Caribbean,
the Panama Canal and Central America before
heading North to Vancouver, Canada to
participate in the World Peace Forum at
the end of June.
The World Peace Forum will bring
together over 3000 individuals, from Senators
to community leaders to artists to young
activists, who are dedicated to creating
a peaceful and sustainable planet in our
lifetimes.
As a major participant at the conference,
Peace Boat will lead a variety of workshops,
such as a presentation from a group of
youth from each of the Nuclear Weapon
States, entitled "Youth, Peace Culture
and Nuclear Disarmament."
Peace Boat will also raise awareness
and support for the "Article 9"
peace provision of the Japanese Constitution,
as well as welcome visitors on board the
ship to learn more about the international
initiatives of the organization.
The weeklong World Peace Forum
will officially close with a Bon Voyage
Ceremony at the Peace Boat, as it sails
back home to Japan carrying the message
of the peace conference.
The ship's next call to the United States will be in October, visiting
San Francisco.
We are working with local organizations
in the Bay area and will host a variety
of programs representing the diversity
of the city and its vibrant civil society.
We hope to see you or anyone in
your extended network onboard for the
reception!
