Polar
Bears with a Twist

There is actually more than one twist to this article; there are
three parts. One is about cannibalism,
the other is about extinction and the
last one is about global warming.
Global warming is affecting not just humans and land but the animals
too. One of those animals that are being
affected is the polar bear. They are cute,
fuzzy, heavy and hungry. When I say hungry
I don’t mean snacking but I mean a
total meal. These huge mammals are turning
into cannibals. Global warming has affected
them in a big way. They feed on their favorite
entrée, which is the seal.
The problem is that the seals only
come out during colder seasons. When global
warming is happening the cold seasons turn
shorter and hot seasons take over. During
the longer summers there are no seals and
if there are no seals the polar bears cannot
survive and they have to turn over to their
own kind to feed.
The second part to this twist is all about the possible future
extinction of polar bears. The polar bears
of the world swim for miles and need something
to rest on and feed on. This resting place
is what we call a glacier. The glaciers
that the polar bears rest, rely and depend
on are melting away into the ocean because
of global warming.
The heat rays from the sun go through
the earth's atmosphere to heat us up during
the day. Because of man made pollutions,
the bad gases from factories such as CO2
rise to the atmosphere and thicken
it. When the atmosphere thickens the heat
rays cannot escape from the atmosphere.
So, now we have all of this heat stuck
inside the atmosphere and that heat melts
the glaciers away into the ocean. As we
know the polar bears need to rest on something
after swimming so far. When their heavy
bodies try to rest on thin ice, the ice
breaks away; and the polar bears cannot
do anything but drown.
Due to global warming these beautiful
animals may not last until the end of
the century.
Don't get all depressed about what I just said because these are
all possibilities. There are ways to stop
this from happening.
My suggestions are:
- Recycle, reduce,
reuse and repair
- Turn against
fossil fuel plants
- Turn the lights
of when you don't need light
- Try to use
as many natural things as possible
- Try riding
your bike or try walking for short distances
instead of using your car
- If you absolutely
have to use a car, buy a hybrid if you
can
- Last but not
least encourage everyone to help nature
and themselves
If my ideas don't really convince you, go watch Al Gore's movie
"An Inconvenient Truth". I am
sure his brilliant work and ideas will
impress you big time just as they impressed
me. I am suggesting this because I was
inspired by his wonderful movie and words.
This gave me an idea to write my article.
