1.
Let me borrow a language I never spoke
To speak of the ways of men here
2.
God witnessed a man slitting the throat of another
God blew threw your hair and cried on your face
And you still have nothing to say about anything
3.
I can taste the salt of sin
I can see the hennaed hands of satan
I can hear the tears that have yet to be cried
4.
This is what brought me to your bed,
This is what made me your lover,
This is what tore me from your limbs and made me hate you.

Who is Asli Omur?
Asli Omur is an emblematic Istanbullite with a robust family history
of politics, passion and genius. Her
great great grandmother, Aziz Haydar Hn.,
(Thessaloniki) sold all her diamonds and
used the funds to create Turkey’s
first school for children, she was the
first Turkish woman to mend Turkish soldiers
wounds on the battlefield, a zealous women’s
rights and immigrants rights activist
in Turkey, she was also the first women
to be elected into Turkish parliament
with an all male vote and was a strong
ally to Ataturk.
Omur currently resides in Seattle, where she is a third year student
of Communications and International Studies
at the University of Washington. Omur
is a published poet, photographer and
journalist who has acted as a correspondent
for such publications as The Turkish
Times and The Tampa Tribune.
She stumbled across photography by accident one summer and has
not put her camera down since. Her favorite
subjects to photograph include children
and spontaneous street portraiture in
urban areas. She cites Ara Guler, her
grandfathers Emre and Gazanfer Omur, Akgun
Akova, Paul Strand and Robert Doisneau
as her greatest photographic inspirations.
