An
Inspiration based on Turkish Proverbs...
by Çigdem A. ACAR
A Brief Introduction:
Turkish proverbs
are a wealth of practical advice, moral teachings, and
observations full of
humour. These very short sentences in a few words
convey a sea of meaning, often in metaphorical form. The
entire spectrum of human experience is covered by Turkish
proverbs. I always felt that these precious gems are being
lost, forgotten in the westernizing, globalizing tempest
that blends everything and discards that which is unique
and hard to retrofit in the modern western lifestyle.
Using these proverbs as a springboard, I have created a few humble
pieces.
I hope you will enjoy them.
* * *
"lastik top"
I am like a rubber ball: small and stubborn.
“The harder you hit me on the ground, the higher
I bounce.
"yorganini ayagina kadar cekme"
When you come and sit across from me and we talk, why not be free
to be
someone else, play a game as if we were acting out in
a play? A good strategy to look at yourself in
the mirror every day without getting bored.
"Ruzgar gülü"
We are like cut crystal -- so many facets nicely shaped and reflecting
the sun and other beautiful things; differently from each
facet. No
one can see us all in one piece.
We don't exist as one piece.
We are something else for everyone.
"the road not taken"
Su yolu secersen arkadasinin askina asik olabilirsin, ote tarafa
donmeyi yeglersen, kamyonun altinda can vermeye hazir
ol.
"Aslan bile kadina dokunmaz"
Ever thought why Amazones have only one breast ?? To better take aim while balancing their
mount.
"gonulden gonule yol vardir"
If only we could leave some doors open more often, and some closed
more freely.
There is nothing to be afraid of: they are very easy to manipulate.
"Cigdem'in agzinden Bircan'in Sri Lanka vedasi"
Kadinin kurnazi cocugunu kocasina baktirir.
