& Turkish House.
In conjunction to the 6th Anniversary of the Light Millennium's
dedication theme, "Choice for Humanity," we are proud to present
a timely and important issue entitled, SAFETY ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF NUCLEAR
POWER PLANTS on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 @7:00 PM at the Turkish House.
ABOUT THE PANEL:
April 26 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear
accident in Ukraine. The Chernobyl anniversary provides a fitting time and
backdrop to revisit the issues relating to safety and environmental aspects
of nuclear power plants, especially the global effects of the Chernobyl
accident which proved that radioactive radiation recognizes no
boundaries.
Can the nuclear technology within its highest capacity and with
minimum negative effects on human and environment serve for human developments
globally? Is this possible? If so, how is it possible?
What are the possible solutions to minimize those nuclear terminal's
potential hazards on human beings and the environment through leaking,
accidents, earthquakes as well as from its construction to breaking-down
process... And what are the short and long term solutions for nuclear
waste from the global perspective?
Via this panel, we will seek some answers on the preceding questions
in relation to the SAFETY ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS.
The panel is part of the 6th Anniversary Celebration of the Light
Millennium organization and sponsored
by Federation of Turkish American
Associations & Turkish House. Producer
of the event,
Bircan Unver.

-- There will be a light-reception at the beginning of the program.
Entry is free and WELCOME to ALL
-- Ideas/articles/researches on the issue, will be e-published
on the Light Millennium's web site based
on free submissions. Thank You. L.M.
About the speakers (in alphabetic
order):
Gokhan GELISEN, MS, PE,
has 7 years of experience in the
analysis, design and detailing of transportation
facilities, including tunnels, facilities
for underground railway systems, and ventilation
buildings as well as in the inspection
and development of repair and strengthening
schemes for existing structures. He served
as a structural engineer at Parsons Brinckerhoff
Quade & Douglas Inc. for East Side
Access Project (ESA-MTA, Bechtel-URS JV),
the first major rail station in Manhattan
in over 90 years and the largest mined
underground terminal ever built in the
U.S. He is serving as a senior structural
engineer at Washington Group International
Inc.
Sultan CATTO, Ph.D., Yale University (Mathematical Physics), has made
important contributions to the development of elementary particle
physics in the area of dynamical supersymmetry, and in mathematics in the
areas of spectral theory of automorphic forms and octonionic projective
geometries with applications to quantum mechanics. He is a professor and Executive
Officer for the Ph.D. Program in Physics at the CUNY Graduate School,
member of Baruch College's informal algebra/number theory group,
Adjunct Associate Research Scientist in Henry Krumb School of Mines, Columbia
University, and Visiting Professor at the Rockefeller University.
He was awarded the "Benjamin W. Lee Prize" by the International
School of Sub-Nuclear Physics (Ettore Majorana) in Sicily, Italy, for his
work on quark-diquark supersymmetry.
Hayrettin KILIC, Ph.D., founder of the Green Think Tank of Turunc
Foundation is a peace activist and environmentalist. He is a graduate
of University of Istanbul, and received a M.Sc. and PH.D in Plasma
Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, USA. During his
graduate studies, he also worked in PSE&G's Research Department in NJ investigating Utility Requirements for Fission-Fusion Hybrid Nuclear
Power Plants, and Safety and Environmental Aspects of Fusion Reactors.
He worked as a research scientist at Yale University & Stanford
University, and as a research professor at University of Ferrara, Italy. In
the last 15 years, Dr. Kilic has been working diligently with universities,
NGO's, local authorities, politicians in the United States & Europe
to educate the public about safety of nuclear power in every shape and form.
