Light Millennium, in collaboration with The Graduate School, The
City University of New York, is organizing
a unique program titled, •Two Universal
Men,• to celebrate the philosophy
and visions of Mevlana Celaleddin RUMI
and
Sir Arthur C. CLARKE.
The program will be formed in two parts based on works selected
from and inspired by RUMI and CLARKE.
Participants may read either from RUMI•s
works or from their own work related to
RUMI's poetry/philosophy or CLARKE•s
work in scientific, technological, and
futuristic vision. The original works
of the presenters may be published on
the Light Millennium's website.
The program will reflect ideas in science and arts through poetic
and scientific visions for the purpose
of connecting the 13th Century with today,
and the future. It will also create a
cultural bridge between Eastern and Western
worlds, fostering a better understanding
and more positive connections and inspirations
between them.
The title of the program, •Two Universal Men,• is inspired
by an essay, also titled •Two Universal
Men•.

About MEVLANA CELALEDDIN RUMI:
RUMI (1207-1273) was a 13th century poet, jurist, and theologian.
Rumi was born in Balkh (then a city of
Greater Khorasan in Persia, now part of
Afghanistan) and died in Konya (in present
day Turkey). He lived most of his life
and produced his works under the Seljuk
Empire, centered in Konya/Anatolia, Turkey.

2007 - INTERNATIONAL RUMI YEAR:
The Culture and Tourism Ministry of Turkey declared 2007 as "International
Rumi Year" and this declaration was
supported by UNESCO in March 2006. This
declaration directed the world's attention
to Rumi and to the commemoration of his
800th birthday anniversary, which is being
celebrated all over the world this year.
This program will be the Light Millennium•s
third and last chain public event in relation
to the 2007 International Rumi Year. However,
RUMI•s philosophy will remain as
one of the main concepts we will continue
to work with in the years to come.

*Seb-i Arus: Seb means "night" in Persian, Arus
means "bride" in Persian. "Seb-i
Arus" literally means the "night
of the bride" suggesting the wedding
night. Mevlana used this phrase for his
own death night (on December 17, 1273).
He likened the night he would unite with
God to a joyful wedding night.
