Prof. Talat Halman will present sufi Yunus
Emre’s (1241-1321) poetry.
Professor is famous for his excellent
translations of the Turkish sufi poet.
Previously, he taught at NYU. Now, he
teaches at Bilkent University, Ankara.
He is a former Minister of Culture of
Turkey.
Yunus Emre, unlike Mevlana - Rumi who wrote in Persian,
the literary language of the era, Yunus
expressed himself in his native tongue,
Turkish. His language is direct and easy-to-understand,
while his style is rich in Sufi metaphors.
