"ALL MEN SHALL BECOME BROTHERS" - Ludwig Van Beethoven

A Commemoration event for the 100th Anniversary of the Beginning of the First World War (1914-1918) featured an address by UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon and a performance by the Grammy Award-winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra of pieces by Samuel Barber, Ludwig van Beethoven and Maurice Ravel. It is indicated in the program the following: The lives of these three composers were all marked by the wars of their times and their music reflects that.

The 100th Anniversary Commemoration event also presented three readings from the diaries and letters of people who lived through the war.

The event powerfully promoted "building peace and reconciliation" on a symbolic level by all the participated member states and permanent representatives to the UN along with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon's remarks, and the group photo session for the closing.

Organized by: Permanent Missions of France and Germany with the cooperation of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations.
