The
television program titled, "Redefining
the Turkish Media" by Nuri M.ÇOLAKOGLU
is produced based on the conference titled,
"The Fourth Emerging Power in the Middle
East: Redefining the Turkish Media's Role
& Future" which took place at the
Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken,
New Jersey on April 2, 2004. The conference
was organized by the Light Millennium and
was co-sponsored by Stevens Institute of Technology.
Nuri M. ÇOLAKOGLU is one of the most
prominent figures of the Turkish media. He
is the Chairman & CEO of the New Media
Company TV and Advertisement Co; and also
the Broadcast & Print Media Coordinator
at Dogan Media Group in Istanbul, Turkey.
The TV program opens with Prof. Edward FOSTERs
insightful introduction of Mr. ÇOLAKOGLU,
his background, and the Turkish media in general.
Prof. FOSTER is the founding editor of Talisman
Publishing House and professor of English
& American Literature at Stevens.
In his presentation, Nuri M. ÇOLAKOGLU
states that Turkey now has become a role model
in the Middle East. He emphasizes Turkeys
strategic significance by saying: Turkey
is not the center of the world, but it happens
to be there. He expresses that Turkey
is at the crossroads connecting Europe and
Asia, east and west, north and south. He also
states that Turkey is a unique example in
Asia, having fought the first war of independence.
In the television program, "Redefining
the Turkish Media," ÇOLAKOGLU
declares that Turkish media has the most colorful,
most exciting media environments in a region
stretching from the Balkans to India with
21 nationwide, 15 regional and 220 local TV
stations, 28 nationwide distributed daily
newspapers, and hundreds of magazines. He
adds that the daily newspaper circulation
in Turkey is now over 4 million.
COLAKOGLU concludes his insightful, informative,
and educational presentation with these words:
Turkey is a stepping stone on the way
to expand into the regions which are on top
of the global agenda today.
Following his shortened presentation based
on April 2, 2004 for the television program
on the basis of his conference, the program
conveys a part of the Questions & Answers
session. In this part, ÇOLAKOGLU responds
to a question by stating that: "Media
can be powerful only when their message has
already been in the mind and heart of public.
This program is produced and directed by Bircan
for the Light Millennium Television Series
and edited through facilities of Queens Public
Access Television in Flushing, New York in
June 2005.
