Opening Ceremony of the 8th Istanbul Biennial Held at
Antrepo No: 4 With Over 3000 Guests
The Opening Ceremony of the 8th International Istanbul
Biennial, sponsored by JTI,Turkey and organized by Istanbul
Foundation For Culture and Arts, was held with over 3000
guests at the main venue of the event: Antrepo No: 4.

The
KulturPreis Europa
2003 (European Award for Cultural Achievement)
has been granted by KulturForum Europa to Istanbul Foundation
for Culture and Arts at the opening Ceremony of the 8th
International Istanbul Biennial. The KulturForum Europa
has been granting the KulturPreis Europa for 11 years
to the individuals and institutions
that have contributed to the development of human rights,
law, democracy
and intercultural dialogue. For the first time, this year,
the award goes to
an institution outside the European Union. KulturForum
Europa's Chairman Dieter Topp
stated in his speech that the KulturPreis Europa 2003
has been granted toIstanbul
Foundation for Culture and Arts "for their cultural
and artistic activities in
the past 30 years whereby they have helped to create mutual
understanding, tolerance
and trust between the East and the West, between Islam
and Christianity."
Ms.
Elzbieta Penderecki of Poland presented the award of Istanbul
Foundation for Culture
and Arts to Mr. Talat Halman, Vice-President. Ms. Penderecki
was the winner of
the award last year.
Following
the Opening Ceremony, the Biennial Sponsor, JTI Turkey;

Artists, Eczacibasi Holding; the Audio-visual Sponsor;
SONY and catering sponsor
Armada Hotel have been presented plaques for their contribution
in the 8th International
Istanbul Biennial. Furthermore, the International Supporters
and Special
Project Supporters of the 8th International Istanbul Biennial
have receivedtheir
plaques, as well.
The
professional preview of the 8th International Istanbul
Biennial was visited by around
500 local and foreign press representatives and over 2.000
art professionals.
The
8th International Istanbul Biennial can be visited until
November 16th, 2003.
