OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
ON HIS VISIT TO NEW YORK CITY
My Dear Son President Barack Obama,
[April 6, 2011] I want you to know I am writing to you to express some of my concerns that need to be addressed.
1st. I want to make it clear to you that no one can speak for us but we must speak for ourselves. We the voiceless, the poor and the powerless appeal to you that we have a right to food, shelter and clothing which is our God given rights of self survival. I ask of you with an unwavering stance of a man of integrity to hear me out. I call for Reparations in the Spirit of Queen Mother Audley Moore and my African Ancestors. If you can bail out bankers on Wall Street, which sold our Ancestors as commodities, I am sure you can bail out the senior citizens, the handicap and poor people from predatory lenders evicting us from our homes with unscrupulous foreclosures.
2nd. If you can bail out General Motors with Fifty (50) billion, then I am sure that you can bail out the African Descendants of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, the Greatest Crime ever Committed Against Human Kind, with at least thirty (30) billion dollars for creating jobs.
3rd. If you can spend a trillion dollars fighting wars that kill and leave children and women maimed, we would like for you to spend trillions of dollars for children and youth to grow up and receive a quality education in a peaceful, secure and healthy environment.
4th. I am requesting that you allow Josh, who serves with you in the White House, who I met several times in your Senatorial office in Washington, D.C., to sit and meet with me to discuss these urgent concerns.
Please give my best regards to my daughter, Michelle Obama the First Lady, who I spent quality time with during the Primary Campaign Trail on 125th Street in Harlem. I raised with her the question: “What is your husband’s platform on Reparations?” I am still waiting for a response….
I also want you to know that I supported your election bid in the community.
If you ever need advice, I am here for you.
May God Continue to Lead and Guide You as My Prayers Embrace You.
Blessings,
Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely
