Turkish Youth and Youth of the World!

Presented by
Melis COKUSLU and Oguzhan ULUTAS;
Alumni, Ataturk School
Your first duty is forever to preserve and to defend your own home country towards establishing a culture of peace in the world.
This is the very foundation of your existence and your future. This foundation is your most precious treasure. In the future, too, there may be detrimental people at home and abroad who will wish to deprive you of this treasure and put in an immense risk not only your own country but the world at large.
If some day you are compelled to defend your independence and your republic, you must not dwell on the possibilities and circumstances of the situation before taking up your duty.
These possibilities and circumstances may turn out to be extremely unfavorable. The enemies conspiring against your independence and your republic, may have behind them a victory unprecedented in the chronicles of the world. It may be that by violence and scheme, all the fortresses of your beloved fatherland may be captured all its shipyards occupied, all its armies dispersed and every part of the country invaded.
And, most unfortunate than all these circumstances, those who hold power within the country and in the world political system at large may be in error, misguided and they may even be traitors. Furthermore, they may identify their personal interests with political designs of the invaders. The country may be impoverished, ruined and exhausted.
Dear all the Youth of Turkey's present and future as well as the Youth of the world at large.
Even in such circumstances, it is your duty to save your own home country and the world as one home for all.
You will find the strength you need in your noble blood.
As an international message to you all, we'd like to conclude our presentation with the following quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States:
"If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relations - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace."
When we have peace at home, we will have peace in the world!
- Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the very first President of Turkey, "Statement to the Youth of Turkey", adapted by Emre Kulahlioglu and Melis Cokuslu for the "Sports for Healthy Youth Development, Sustainability and Peace", NYC - May 18 2015 Program.
