This is such
day: the sun is dazzling twice as before - -
A day beyond all days, unlike all others - - say no more..
Lovers, I have great news for you: From the heavens
This day of love brings songs and flowers in a downpour.

be a Sufi, forget the past, put it all away;
Turn a brand new page, rescue your being from yesterday;
Become a child of the present age, of youth, of
Never leave this bountiful moment, this eternal

I have you, the passions of love make me stay awake;
When you are not with me, I cannot sleep - I moan,
I'm awake the night you stay with me and the night
But how those two nights are worlds apart, look,
for heaven's sake.

is such a night - - the core of the darkest layers;
Tonight is such a night when answers are found for
prayers - -
The night of gifts, grants, and offerings, the night
Such a night: we share the secrets of God like soothsayers.

took a vow that so long as life does not fade away
From my heart, I shall stay on the straight path
and never stray;
But then I looked to my right and to my left - -
and I saw
My beloved right and left - - left and right - -
every which way.

Life of RUMI (1207 - 1273)
The name Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi stands for Love and ecstatic flight into
the infinite. Rumi is one of the great spiritual masters
and poetical geniuses of mankind and was the founder of
the Mevlevi Sufi order, a leading mystical brotherhood
Rumi was born in Wakhsh (Tajikistan) under the administration of
Balkh in 30 September 1207 to a family of learned theologians.
Escaping the Mongol invasion and destruction, Rumi and
his family traveled extensively in the Muslim lands, performed
pilgrimage to Mecca and finally settled in Konya, Anatolia,
then part of Seljuk Empire. When his father Bahaduddin
Valad passed away, Rumi succeeded his father in 1231 as
professor in religious sciences. Rumi 24 years old, was
an already accomplished scholar in religious and positive
He was introduced into the mystical path by a wandering dervish,
Shemseddin of Tebriz. His love and his bereavement for
the death of Shams found their expression in a surge of
music, dance and lyric poems. Rumi is the author of six
volume didactic epic work, the `Mesnevi, called as the
'Koran in Persian' by Jami, and discourses, `Fihi
ma Fihi', written to introduce his disciplines into metaphysics.
If there is any general idea underlying Rumi's poetry, it is the
absolute love of God. His influence on thought, literature
and all forms of aesthetic expression in the world of
Islam cannot be overrated.
Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi died on December 17, 1273. Men of five
faiths followed his bier. That night was named Sebul Arus
(Night of Union). Ever since, the Mawlawi dervishes have
kept that date as a festival.
