Statement:
I moved to New York from the UK a few years ago and I was shocked to realize that there was no, or next to no GMO food labeling. In the UK all fresh foods or processed foods have to be labeled by law if they are GMO or if they have any GMO ingredients in them. In the UK the general public are mostly against GMO in their foods and farms. There is very little GMO farming in the UK. There is also much more organic fresh and processed food available in supermarkets. To get organic approval and be able to call your foods organic you have to be 100%, but I have noticed here in the US a lot of foods that call themselves organic aren't 100% organic. Which is crazy!
I believe you are what you eat, I have eaten mostly organic for well over 10 years, and I haven't eaten meat for over 30 years. When I arrived in New York I spent a lot of time researching what food I could eat that was 'safe'. Something I certainly didn't expect I would have to do, it was a very steep learning curve for me. I was genuinely shocked at the high level of GMO's in the food and lack of informed labeling. All my friends here in the US know how important GMO free and organic food is to me, I'm often telling them they should only eat organic dairy and meat products because it has GMO's or pesticides that are harmful and in some cases banned in Europe.
I believe it should be a HUMAN RIGHT to know exactly what is in the food we eat, and not left up to these mega corporations that control nearly all of our food chain, to selectively leave out of the list of ingredients any chemicals they don't want us to know about. I believe they have caused the dramatic increase of obesity and also other medical conditions that have dramatically increased since the use of all these chemicals in our foods.
Monsanto get your hands off our food and out of our farms, NOW!
