THE SECOND UN HIGH LEVEL FORUM ON THE CULTURE OF PEACE - United Nations, NY. Sept. 6, 2013

INTRODUCTION:

President of the United Nations General Assembly (UN-PGA) and Global Movement for the Culture of Peace (GMCoP) jointly presented the Second UN High Level Forum on The Culture of Peace (HLF/CoP) as a daylong program that hold at the United Nations – NY Headquarters/Trusteeship Council Chamber on Friday 6 September 2013 from 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.

Convened by the President of the 67th General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremić, the HLF/CoP had an opening ceremony at the UN where the President and Deputy Secretary-General gave speeches. Afterwards, three panel discussions followed: "The role of interfaith cooperation in promoting a global Culture of Peace" in the morning session, "The Culture of Peace as the agenda for a new global civilization: Where are we now?" and "Strategies for advancing implementation of the UN Programme of Action on Culture of Peace: What we need." in the afternoon session.

Special focus of the High Level Forum was on the implementation of the UN Programme of Action on Culture of Peace adopted by the UN General Assembly 13 September 1999. (A/RES/53/243). The role of religious and interfaith cooperation in promoting a global Culture of Peace was also one of the important areas was that dwelt on in this year’s Forum.
