We are very excited to announce the following: The Light Millennium (LMTV) has received a Technical Production Grant Aid for two one-hour studio productions by Queens Public Television (QPTV).
The Town Hall Meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th from 6:00PM to 8:30PM. The first program is entitled: “PEACE: REALITY or UTOPIAN DREAM?”
The
confirmed panelists and participants for this program are:
H.E. Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, Former Under-Secretary-General & High Representative of the UN; Honorable Nejmeddine Lakhal, Deputy Permanent Representative, Mission of Tunisia to the U.N.; Mr. Randy Rydell, Senior Political Affairs Officer in the Office of Mr. Sergio Duarte, the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs at the U.N.; Mr. John Burroughs, J.D., Ph.D., Executive Director of the New York based Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy (LCNP) & the UN office of the International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms (IALANA); Mrs. Sally Kader, President, US Federation for Middle East Peace; Dr. Jill Strauss, Adjunct Professor, Sociology of Conflict at John Jay College; Ms. Blanche Foster, Acting Executive Director, Darfur Rehabilitation Project - DRP; Mr. Adam REIELY, UNNGO Rep. The second program, which will immediately follow the first show, is entitled:
GREEN-CLEAN ECONOMY AND POWER FOR ALL.
Confirmed panelists are: Mr. Kevin Cassidy, Communications and External Relations Officer, ILO Office to the UN International, Labor Office; Wale Idris Ajibade (
Wale Idris), founder and elected Executive Director of African Views; Ms. Beyhan Karahan, principal, Beyhan Karahan & Associates, and professor of Architecture at NYIT School of Architecture and Design; Dr Gregory Morgan, Director of the program in Technology, Policy, and Ethics (TPE) at Stevens Institute of Technology, who also teaches courses in Environmental Policy; Dr. Sorosh Roshan, President, International Health Awareness; and UNNGO Rep. Ms. Terry Kiragu, Olof Palme Peace Foundation and UNNGO Rep.
Each program will be presented by the aforementioned expert panelists from the UN, Ambassadorial / Governmental level, NGOs and universities. We also seeking participation by local media for an interactive session.
The studio town-hall meetings will be co-hosted by Bircan Ünver, producer of the LMTV, and Permanent Representative to the UN DPI-NGO of The Light Millennium and Mr. Cem Zorlular, Youth Rep. to the UN DPI-NGO and student at Columbia University. The recording of these two programs will also mark Bircan’s 20th Anniversary as a producer at QPTV. Additionally, this will also be the 20th Anniversary of Ms. Ünver’s first documentary short: “
Peace: Reality or Utopian Dream?” which was produced in 1992.
As the producer of the two upcoming programs, Ms. Ünver would like to express her appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Dan Leone, Executive Producer of Queens Public TV, for the valuable technical production aid grant. Our gratitude also goes to Ms. Roslyn Nieves, Community Development Manager (QPTV). This grant enables us to undertake challenging projects on behalf of LMTV.
Finally, the producer thanks QPTV, for providing the most diverse non-commercial community programming, enabling free access and low-cost training, which provides equal opportunity and equal access to all residents of Queens, from the all walks of life, for nearly to 30 years. It also provides an ongoing opportunity for community production and outreach to residents in Queens. By providing community programming twenty four hours a day, on a daily basis, QPTV also provides a real platform and venue for the practice of “free expression” via electronic media since its inception. QPTV is a real symbol and role model for democracy and freedom at home and abroad.
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: We seek to present your voice in these programs. Based on your interest, and expertise, from local not-for-profit organizations, researchers, students and local media in Queens; your participation in these programs will bring the voice of your community to the forefront. It will also facilitate greater diversity for each of the programs. We are also interested in hearing from the youth in the community. We also welcome the participation of all people of races, ethnicities, creeds, religions and gender.

Each television program will be 58:30 min. and will be shown on one of QPTV’s four channels. These programs also will be available on demand on the web after initial airing at QPTV.
