MEDIA RELEASE
Burhan Dogancay
was born in 1932, in Istanbul, Turkey and he has been living in New
York since 1962. Dogancay began to take photographs of New York during
1962, then it has evolved into a passion. He has taken photographs of
the walls of the world since then. The wall images and wits also have
been inspiring the artist in his sculpture and paintings. Dogancay presents
a diversity of cultural symbols, images, expressions like love, hate,
and either critics or supporters of the political practices of each
nation throughout The Walls of the World project. In this respect, Dogancay photographs bring together
many cultures as an archive of our near past, as well as a panorama
of our time.
The program
has aimed to reach all the diverse groups of people. They will acknowledge
this great archive and relate with their own culture. This is a remarkable
diverse panorama, especially, for those who live in New York.
The program "The Walls of the World" was produced & directed by Bircan Ünver, and completed in June 1998, through Queens Public Television facilities Flushing, New York. "I am, Voice of the Walls" and biography were written and interviews conducted by Bircan Ünver, and poem narrated by John J. Culkin and Vanessa Cavaco. Contact: |
