FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
INTRODUCTION:
We ALL need to own, demand, and work toward the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals. To achieve these goals partly depends on the efforts of each government in every country and the central global governance of the United Nations as well as international collaborations and partnerships. Yet, it also partly depends on each of us as individuals, families, and community or civil society organizations in terms of channeling our collective energy into the MDGs for achieving them in every corner of the world by 2015. Thus, it is very crucial to ask the following question: Where are we now in 2010 regarding the context of the MDGs?
Based on the obtained facts through the UN MDGs Summit2010, we need to demand the authorities to strengthen the weak areas by putting in the necessary efforts in a fast, effective and transparent manner. This will help us reflect our voices in the outcome.
Furthermore, the "Freedom of Expression" motto, one of the immediate human needs, is not part of the MDGs. For this reason, through this issue, we also would like to openly propose the concept of "freedom of expression" to be included in the MDGs as a 9th goal for the next Summit. In this respect, we dedicate this issue to these concepts. (Please see below for the 8 goals of the MDGs along with the Article 19 and the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.)
Looking forward to having your submissions from every corner of the world to support the MDGs and the Freedom of Expression.
Thank You. L.M.
